Stars without number actual play podcasts worth your time

So you've found Stars Without Number, or you've been running it for years, and you want to hear how other people actually play the thing. Good news: there are a few solid options out there.

Active Shows

7th Star To the Right

The crew of the Phoenix Pham stole a starship and have been joyriding around the galaxy ever since. Geoff runs them through space bears, crystal goblins, murderous AIs, and what I can only describe as an unusually high concentration of psychics. The driving question of the show is whether this crew can get their psychic space daughter to space college. New episodes drop biweekly on Wednesdays.

Astronomica

Stan runs the crew of The Admiral Grace, a ship whose AI status is, officially, not confirmed. The show hits the swashbuckling end of the SWN spectrum, and there's an encounter with space whales in there that I think about more than I probably should. New episodes every Wednesday.

Dark Star Adventurecast

That's this show. I run a crew of freelancers through the Veridian Expanse, a sector where corporate cold wars and fading fringe worlds set the stage for a lot of bad decisions. New episodes every Tuesday. You probably already know if this is for you.

Completed Series

Looters

High-energy freelancers taking dangerous jobs. Mercenary-focused, every credit counts, risks are high. Completed run, worth going back to if you want a full story with a beginning and end.

RollPlay: Swan Song

Fifty episodes from the RollPlay channel. This one runs on SWN 1st Edition rather than Revised, so the mechanics will look a little different, but it's a significant piece of the system's history and still one of the better examples of sandbox GMing and the Faction Turn you'll find on video. If you want to understand why SWN has the audience it has, Swan Song is part of that story.

Know a show that should be on this list?

I try to keep this updated. The only requirement is at least five episodes -- enough to know the show is actually running. Send me a message through the contact page and I'll take a look.
